Anyway to limit Autogen draw with Altitude

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Enjoying 5.3 so far and have started to use autogen which is something I couldn't do due to poor FPS in previous versions. That said, it appears that the autogen doesn't disappear with altitude...well, some of it doesn't anyway. Here I am at 25,000 feet and looking down I get spatterings of ugly bright green trees.

All looks OK on the ground, but is there a way to stop autogen being drawn once you get over a certain height?

Chers,

Hi Tokitaumelie,

Appreciate the suggestion but unfortunately unchecking (and restarting) that box doesn't appear to have removed these ugly things. Just passing through 20,000 feet and they're still popping in and out. Not sure why some trees are lime green and others a more normal colour, the only addons I've got are Orbx Base.....

Any other ideas out there? Perhaps this is normal...

Might be quite subjective but I found that the default trees and LC used by LM always give you over green trees - gets worse in tropical areas and especially if you have dynamic vegetation ticked. So correct unselect the dynamic vegetation is the first step. In fact the default trees in P3D are rubbish really. If you are an amateur horticulturalist and I grow a lot of trees for real you notice this aspect of the sim very quickly,

I use the ORBX trees HD addon and they have another tree package Terra Flora HD - I use both they are cheap. I find they do two things, they reduce the tree sizing to realistic levels, they give you increased variety, better global tree coverage and type. They also increased overall tree density for some reason which I suspect is related to the smaller texture size of ORBX trees. Neither of these packages impact on my sim in fact they seem to improve its performance particularly given trees displayed by autogen. I get twice as many trees displayed at the default airport KRND, they are a better selection and the colouring is correct using ORBX but sparse and not very realistic with LM's default trees.

I also unselect shadows cast and receive for vegetation in the lighting menu of P3D - as this can cause a shimmering and unwanted colouring effect as well. You won't miss tree shadows either on the ground or in the air. The perspective is good at any altitude.

Finally I guess it depends on the level of LC you use, Global is good but for other areas I find a high quality LC set makes all the difference as well. Depends where you fly at the end of the day. But you cannot manipulate the vegetation autogen displayed any other way other than to use different LC and different tree textures.

Thank for the reply Coastaldriver - appreciated.

I've never really bothered with autogen because I realised it was a significant drain on FPS and given I spent most of the flight at FL300 it wasn't worth paying the FPS when I get closer to the ground. That changed somewhat when I upgraded to my existing rig and P3D seemed to improve it's performance a little.

I'll look into the Orbx addons you described. I'vegot their Europe and NA landclass which does improve things as well.

Cheers
