January 1, 20224 yr Since nose wheel steering is typically controlled by the rudder pedals, I thought adjusting the rudder sensitivity curve in MSFS might also adjust the nose wheel steering, but that does not seem to be how it works on my system. Does that seem correct? Thx, Al
January 1, 20224 yr Based on adjustments made in some successful mods, it appears that the setting for "max_castering_angle" in the flight_model.cfg controls the sensitivity and response of the nose wheel steering. I have used this setting to successfully adjust the steering response of the TBM and C208B. Randall Rocke

I have used this setting to successfully adjust the steering response of the TBM and C208B. I will take a look at that -- thanks. The other thing I will try is through FSUIPC7. FSUIPC7 has what it calls a Tiller axis. As I understand it, this can be a fictitious rudder controlled steering axis for which you can set a sensitivity curve and which cuts out at a specified speed -- say 60 Kts, after which speed the rudder pedals control the rudder as "normal". January 1, 20224 yr Nose wheel: In the original file you'll see: --------------------------------- max_castering_angle = 3.14159265358979 ; Defines the maximum angle a free castering wheel can take (in radians). point.0 = 1, -7.5, 0, -4.14, 720, 0, 0.52, 15, 0.327, 1.5, 0.9, 13, 13, 0, 0, 0, 4 Change the 15 to 60 so it looks like the below: max_castering_angle = 3.14159265358979 ; Defines the maximum angle a free castering wheel can take (in radians). point.0 = 1, -7.5, 0, -4.14, 720, 0, 0.52, 60, 0.327, 1.5, 0.9, 13, 13, 0, 0, 0, 4 The higher the number the greater the response. This was the setting by the mod creator for the TBM. I actually prefer a setting of "50". I use a slightly different setting for the 208B, but I don't have access to that info right now. So if I understand correctly, if I find the nose wheel steering overly sensitive, I would want to reduce the "15" value down to maybe 10 or so. BTW, the max_castering_angle = 3.14159265358979 is the value of the numerical constant "pie", which corresponds to 180 degs. Al Edited January 1, 20224 yr by ark
January 1, 20224 yr Well, the main thing this settings does is to adjust the turning radius of the aircraft as impacted by the amount the nose wheel can deflect. With both the TBM and the 208B, for instance, it was difficult to get enough of a tight turning radius for some ramp areas and taxiways - now it's easy to control both aircraft. I would note that the more the nose wheel turns or responds to input, the more sensitive it becomes. That's the main reason I backed the TBM off a little from the mod author's setting, as I thought it made the takeoff run too squirrely. That gave me good turning response but kept her from becoming too twitchy. Randall Rocke
