They already put out a patch note not that long ago about reducing weather bandwidth resulting in fewer cloud types. This is just the next step. But they are still using the expensive forecast modelling. As I said, Meteoblue is still on board; their data and forecast model is still active in the simulator, not replaced. Fewer cloud types (the abundance of cumulonimbus) are/were due to bugs.
