Idiots Guide to VR setup/ Model

Featured Replies

Hi, still waiting for my new PC with a  Msi Nvidia Geforce Ventus  3x RTX 3080 , but when it arrives hopefully in a few weeks I am tempted to move into VR.

I have a fairly small room so need to be sat down not moving around in a large room.   From what I  read the HP G2  would be a good model to go for?

However is there an idiots guide that anyone has written  or a video  anywhere to set this up in  MSFC 2020?

Am I going to have to  install all sorts of software ,  mess around configuring loads of settings?  I've been away from fsx for about 2 years now,  and I used to   spend more time changing settings than actually flying.

Cheers

VR is a great experience in MSFS.

If you go this route, take your time and give yourself several breaks while getting used to VR. Some people experience some nausea at first. If that happens, just take short VR sessions until your brain adapts to what its seeing.

There are a lot of good youtube videos out there on headsets, and setups, and everyone's system will be different.

Some of the VR youtubers you should check out is SimHanger and VR Flight Sim Guy.

Keep in mind that VR is changing just as fast as MSFS, so something you see or read about 6 months ago, may no longer be valid.

The HP Reverb is a favorite among flight simmers due to its higher resolution. This enables  you to read the gauges easier then having to lean in to read them. . I don't use the VR controllers while using the sim, I use my yoke, petals and throttle quadrant and the mouse.

As far as software goes, the HP Reverb is a Windows Mixed Reality Headset and uses the built in software that comes with Windows 10/11.  Windows Mixed Reality software needs to be running to use the VR headset. That is all you need for the basics.  You also may need download Windows OpenXR for Windows Mixed Reality and Open XR Developer tools for Windows  if you want to tweak some settings but you do not need to run these programs while using it.

Most of the settings will be inside of MSFS in the VR settings. Very similar to setting up your graphic settings for your monitor.

I wouldn't install any additional software..... Just use Windows Mixed Reality..... later you can download and play with Open XR developer tools but I never really saw much benefit.
