MCE/ATC did not like this and ATC kept complaining several more times as I desperately tried to communicate correctly. Finally, ATC cancelled my IFR flight!

I am not yet on TOWER, I'm with APPROACH.

Try

"contact Tower, on 118.1, Kodiak 9KQ".

"switch to Tower, on 118.1, Kodiak 9KQ".

"continue with Tower, on 118.1, Kodiak 9KQ".

"roger call Tower, on 118.1, Kodiak 9KQ".

Having said that "Tower, on 118.1, Kodiak 9KQ".should also be accepted. Right now, speech grammar insists on having one of those "contact", "switch over to", "carry on with" at the beginning of the sentence (when they should be optional)

EDIT: My mistake, "Tower, on 118.1, Kodiak 9KQ" should be taken in even with current grammar.

I suggest you go through MCE speech trainer and select "ATC topic". Very good for helping speech engine work out how you spell NATO alphabet and numbers.

Windows Start->Multi Crew Experience->Speech training.

I actually got past the above as noted in my last post.

The clue was in the ATC response: "1. Acknowledge Approach Clearance."

I spoke "Cleared ILS runway two four approach, Kodiak niner kilo Quebec"

MCE/ATC responded correctly, and MSFS 2020 moved to the next set of commands, which was contact Tower. In contacting Tower, I replied "Tower, Kodiak niner kilo Quebec, inbound ILS runway two four."

Then MSFS ATC Tower wanted me to (again) acknowledge cleared for ILS runway 24 approach.

I'm getting there. VFR is so much easier...IFR seems to require much more communication and confirm multiple, and similar, acknowledgements with Approach & Tower.

Anyway, thanks for yours and fighterguys help.

I have not tried an IFR RNAV approach just yet...

When I contact TOWER with an ILS approach, I say:

Tower, Kodiak niner Kilo Quebec, established ILS XX.

does MCE handle RNAV? If so, what do I say?

Tower, Kodiak niner Kilo Quebec, established RNAV XX??

Another question for IFR Tower interactions...

First, I finally completed my IFR flight using MCE completely. So, I am very happy about this!

My question is this: 

I've been assigned ILS runway xx. During my initial TOWER contact, I say:

Tower, Kodiak niner Kilo Quebec, established ILS two four.

Next Tower will Clear me to ILS runway two four (for pattern entry I assume). I'm not IFR trained, but shouldn't a compatible acknowledgement be:

"Cleared ILS runway two four, Kodiak niner Kilo Quebec"

This does not work; I have to say:

"Make straight-in runway two four, Kodiak niner Kilo Quebec"

Of course, I understand why the above works, but it seems "Cleared ILS runway two four, Kodiak niner Kilo Quebec" is a correct ATC response to Tower.

Honestly, the MCE/NATIVE ATC RNAV approach works just as well as the ILS approach.

The same quirks were there, and I hope I can document them correctly.

Here is the RNAV flight plan:

Approach assigns RNAV approach:

Approach says: "9KQ, you are 36 miles south. Maintain present heading and altitude Expect RNAV Y runway 24 approach via VAVOP transition. Cleared to VAVOP"

I replied: "Expect RNAV approach runway two four, Kodiak niner Kilo Quebec" and MCE/ATC responded correctly.

Next Approach hands me off to TOWER:

Approach says: "9KQ, you are 17 miles ne of Vigra, contact Tower on 118.1 when inbound"

This is the answer I must give to acknowledge approach clearance and work correctly: "Expect RNAV approach runway two four, Kodiak niner Kilo Quebec" and MCE/ATC responded correctly. Right or wrong, instead I would intuitively reply with "Contact Tower on 118.1 when inbound"...but this will not work.

As you see in the screenshot below, YOU (me) responds with "Tower on 118.1" but works correctly with my "Expect RNAV approach runway two four, Kodiak niner Kilo Quebec" response.

The screenshot below shows me contacting Tower and Towers Response:

I say "Tower, Kodiak N269KQ, established RNAV 24".

This works and MCE/ATC responds with "...Cleared RNAV Y runway 24 approach"

Next, I must acknowledge the Pattern Entry Instructions:

This response works for both the ILS and RNAV Acknowledgement: "straight-in runway 24, Kodiak niner Kilo Quebec". However instead, I would intuitively respond with "Cleared RNAV runway 24", but this does not work.

Re-download the patch and manually repolace all files. Should get ATC RNAV ack sorted

In new "mce.exe", you can request the Metar for any airfield with speech commands such as

Get the latest weather for Kilo Alpha Tango Lima

obtain metar for Lima India Romeo Foxtrot.

About a hundred airfilelds (most major ones anyway) can be referenced by name

grab the current metar for london heathrow

work out the latest met report for london gatwick

get me the up to date metar for L A (los angeles)

Very Nice!

I really like the get weather feature!

For me, MCE likes "Get weather E N A L" better than "GET METAR E N A L".

I like that MCE asks if I wish to save the weather in a hard copy, and if I say yes, it saves it as a PDF in my Document folder. Very Nice!

However, for some reason, when landing and Tower says "Cleared RNAV Z runway 24 approach" MCE/ATC still does not respond to my speaking "Cleared RNAV runway 24, Kodiak niner Kilo Quebec". It does respond to "straight-in runway 24, Kodiak niner Kilo Quebec".

I don't know if I misunderstood the updated feature, or I am simply not speaking the acknowledgement correctly...

Just wanted to get back and provide an update...

I've tried the new command "Cleared ILS (or RNAV) approach runway XX, Kodiak niner Kilo Quebec" on several different IFR flights. I found this command DOES work when acknowledging Approach Clearance's.

I respond with "Cleared ILS approach runway XX, Kodiak niner Kilo Quebec"

MCE/ATC then answers correctly by offering to contact Tower on XXX.XX.

When Tower clears me to the same ILS approach, I must answer "straight-in runway XX, Kodiak niner Kilo Quebec". With this answer, MCE/ATC Tower continues the ATC dialog with me.

Very much improved and I want to thank Gerald again for the update!
