Middle School Humor

Featured Replies

Middle school humor never dies, it passes from generation to generation.  I got these on the phone last night from my great grandson who's in the 9th grade now.  I didn't let on I'd heard them when I was his age.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

He left out "Under the Bleachers" by Seymour Butts 😀

Middle School??  What the heck is that??  What happened to Elementary School (or Grammar School)  Junior High School, and High School?  What's next?  Gone is Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner?  Don't tell me....Breakfast, Dinner, Supper??  ACK! 🤔😳

Middle School is junior high school Charlie.  Grades 7, 8 and 9.  At least in his part of the country, South Carolina.

Yeah...unfortunately!  The Junior High School I went to is now a middle school.  If anyone remembers "Leave it to Beaver", he was in Grammar School until the 8th grade and then went to Springfield High School!  That always seemed like a big leap to me!

I made that big leap.  I went to St Bridget's school to the 8th grade and then went to St Ignatius high school.  In the 8th grade you are the big fish in a little pond.  Then you enter high school and you are the little fish in a big pond.

A funny thing is, the "middle school" jokes are common across cultures.  I was collecting a bunch that I remembered and was discussing them with a coworker from India.  He knew all the same jokes, and had heard them all in middle school!

So....St. Ignats!  I've driven by there several times!   I now live closer to Archbishop Riordan High School over by City College on Phelan.

I understand it's coed now.  When I went to SI it was all boys.

Three summers ago I visited St Bridgid's grammar school.  It's changed too.  No nuns teaching, all lay persons and the assistant mother superior is a lay person also.  I told the 8th grade teacher who was a man that when I was there in the 8th grade the girls were in one room and the boys in another.  He said he wished it was the same now because it would be much easier teaching if the room were not coed with all those hormones running wild.

I was invited to speak to the 7th and 8th graders and I gave them my standard 'why do I have to learn this, I'll never use it' speech I use whenever I'm invited to speak to school kids.

It was a fun visit.
