P2A won't boot + possibly related log problem

Featured Replies

BOOT FAILURE
P2ATC has run ok for over a year, but started failing to boot recently.

When I click on P2ATC, it sometimes starts, but can sometimes takes anywhere from 2 or 3 to 6 tries.

When it fails, I get brief “flash” of a window and a brief indication in Task Manager, both of which quickly disappear.   Occasionally, after initial tries, I get a “multiple instances” message (again, without appearing among apps running in Task Manager) just before P2ATC boots successfully.

This occurs irrespectively of whether or not I try to get “administrator mode” or whether I use Start Menu tile, task bar icon, or the actual P2ATC.EXE in P2ATC folder.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling 5 or 6 times, including installation of the update.  The program runs fine the first time after each uninstall/reinstall, but the problems reappear the next time I try to run the program.

I have no such problems with any other apps that I tested:  Wordpad / Notepad / X Plane / X Plane Installer / AOMEI Backup / Honeycomb Configurator / Oculus / various system utiities.

Given all of this, it’s hard to imagine that this is not a P2ATC problem as opposed to a system problem.

MULTIPLE LOGS
When I went to look at the log, I found mujltiple  “P2A_2020_Trace_File8”  files:  is it normal for P2ATC to retain all these files?
I am in any case attaching a series of log files from a series of boots:
Some in which app failed to boot
Some in which it booted

SPEECH ASSISTANT FAILURE
And finally:  I suspect this may be linked to the preceding problem, since  the speech assistant works on the very first boot after the uninstall/reinstall, but fails again on subsequent boots:
The speech assistant window opens, and drop-down menus open  when I click on them, but nothing happens when I click on a menu selection such as “back on frequency”, “active runway”,  etc.:  it fails to actually load in the text window.

I’m doing nothing different from what has worked ok over last 15 months

Thanks,

- Eric

I didn't find any obvious causes in the log files.

Since you have already tried reinstalling P2A and, I assume rebooting the PC, you may need to run the Windows 10 Installer to repair some Windows files.  Then do a fresh install of P2A.

If this were a problem with P2A, hundreds of users would be encountering it.

Got around to this shortly after your reply (apology for forgetting my reply til now!).  (very)  long story short (via  Dell tech support, for which my system is still covered.)  FYI:

• we tried a number of things, and it seemed that there were windows files that wouldn't update. they eventually got updates working.

• they also used a proprietary tool to thoroughly clean all P2ATC-related file, after which I reinstalled  & updated.

• at this point, P2ATC sometimes fails to boot, but usually succeeds on second try.

• and, fortunately, the speech assistant is now working.

Many thanks again for your response,

- Eric

I have the same problem (commercial version).

When I run Pilot2ATC (release version) a small window appears very briefly, without any content, and closes immediately. The program does not start.
With the beta version, a window opens indicating a server access failure.  The program does not start.

I have to start Pilot2ATC (release or beta version) several times and at one moment it accepts to start. It is not normal to be obliged to do that to succeed in starting it. Perhaps the access to the server for validating the key is very or too difficult.
