February 3, 20224 yr I'm surprised you've never posted about the next gen compressor that I saw on 'Just Have a Think'. To me that was monstrously impressive and I can only wish Id thought of that. truly revolutionary. | Dave | I've been around for most of my life. I like Just Have a Think, great channel, but for some reason my brain decided to skip the compressor episode. Will definitely give it a watch now you've posted it. I was impressed by the gloop battery technology though. So many innovative ideas appearing in the energy storage arena. Something tells me that within a few years energy storage will be no big deal. February 4, 20224 yr Martin - I like 'Just Have a Think' too and, although Im not sure, I believe it was you that turned me onto that channel so Id like to thank you for that. There have been other channels you and others have brought to my attention and I appreciate them -- I just can't remember who did what. I keep wishing I could have one of those Iron Air batteries in my backyard. I can't believe that actually works. and the new thing I saw that shifts higher energies down to where they aare more useful for solar. I wish I understood why we cant make whatever the equivalent of a solar panel would be that used higher frequencies. We get bombarded with so much energy and yet all we can do is hide from it so it doesn't burn us alive. Seems odd. | Dave | I've been around for most of my life. Quote Quantum dots have the potential to dramatically increase the efficiency of converting sunlight into energy—perhaps even doubling it in some devices—because of their ability to generate more than one bound electron-hole pair, or exciton, per incoming photon. Today’s solar cells produce only one exciton per incoming photon, but the “multiple exciton generation” (MEG) effect of quantum dots promises to wring more energy out of each photon. In addition, varying the size of quantum dots effectively “tunes” them to respond to different wavelengths of light. As quantum dots get smaller, the light spectra that they absorb will shift to the blue, which represents greater energy or shorter wavelength. The smaller the dot, the greater the shift. https://www.nrel.gov/docs/fy13osti/59015.pdf There s also a new photovoltaic technology that not only generates current from light, but also converts the heat into usable electricity. I'm surprised that no one came up with this thing before, as it uses the same principle as an electromagnetic solenoid.
