Insane Jetstreams RJAA - PHNL >190KTS

Featured Replies

Hi all!

Just to share some amazing weather phenomena at Flight ANA186 in PMDG 777-200ER (no A380 available ;-)).

Im just on my way from RJAA to PHNL heading east. At FL 370 I get 190kts wind from the west!

Insane Jetstreams above the ocean. This makes "us" flying 1220km/h GS!

Im glad to fly in this direction......otherwise it would be a very long flight!

Captured in VR

Have a nice weekend to you all and happy landings

I tend to fly a lot of pacific routes to/from SFO. Whenever I take-off out of RJAA or RJTT and start heading east over the ocean, the name of the game is “hold on to your butts!” because the tailwinds are absolutely insane, especially in the winter.

Wouldn’t want that as a headwind though!

In the sim I fly a lot of trans-pacific cargo-routes in the 747-400F, usually via Anchorage.

It's always really striking just how strong the jetstream always is around Japan, particularly in the Winter months where I believe it is usually at it's peak. It makes for interesting differences when flying easterly-versus westerly. Flying westerly from PANC the headwinds are sometimes so strong I have to unload a lot of Cargo to meet my MTOW, flying to Hong Kong around this time of year one even finds one's self routed in a very wonky route over Mainland China to avoid the winds around Japan. Flying Easterly is a dream though, if turbulent.

It makes for a very dynamic region for flying for sure!

PUT In the UK.
