February 7, 20224 yr This article was of special interest to me because I learned to fly in and my first solo was in a Luscombe 8e on floats on San Francisco Bay. https://www.ft.com/content/cb8fa4f8-72eb-484f-8765-c37279184c8c Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
February 7, 20224 yr I don't know why but just recently I've developed a strong urge to try out the Icon in the new sim. I hope the Goose is about to be released. I think it may. After a HUGE, and I mean quite a few years, not simming, I've just finished installing the new sim. And yes, I too fancy some float plane action in the Icon. Currently, I'm just trying to figure out why MS2020 insists on ramping the graphics card up to 70 degrees... just in the menus. CPU up to 60 too. Bonkers stuff. What it needs I reckon is a frame rate cap facility for just the menus, not just the entire sim. One of the things I've noticed about float planes in FS2020 though, is that the water effects when you land and take off don't seem as significant as they should be. Thats just from videos though, still waiting for my joystick to come. Edited February 7, 20224 yr by martin-w
February 7, 20224 yr Author My aircraft of choice in P3D is the Lionheart Quest Kodiak. Some years ago someone PM'd me a mod to tame the turbine engine surge on startup. Now it's tame as a kitten. It comes with both a land and amphibious float version. Great STOL characteristics. I spend an equal amount of time on wheels and floats in Alaska. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. Thats just from videos though, I haven't interacted with the water in the new sim yet. I was flying by the marshy area not far from YPPF in Adelaide and I just felt compelled to get down close to the water and fly through those marshy 'channels'. I really love the photogrammetry and the INCREDIBLE job the Blackshark AI or whatever does with placing all the various sizes and types of shrubs and plants and trees that make watery areas look so good (to me).
