February 8, 20224 yr I first want to say I do enjoy using P2ATC and after going through the user guide I found a lot of neat settings, one being a tone I can set to see if my read back or response to ATC was understood. One thing I would like to see is to use the airport name such as Santa Barbra instead of kilo Sierra Alfa Bravo. So the first part of the read back would be clear to Santa Barbra. When I come near Santa Barbra, I am told to contact Santa Barbra approach. IFR readback on clearance can me long so shortening the first part would be nice. Actually, I have not tried to just say cleared to Santa Barbra. When I contact tower or ground, I can say Santa Barbra tower and ATC understands me maybe because the word tower is in there. Anyway, as I said, great program
February 8, 20224 yr When getting your IFR clearance, is it not standard protocol (at least in North America) to use the airport ICAO code? In examples I've listened to (primarily using ATC Chatter with Pilot2ATC) as well as on VATSIM, the ICAO is always used when getting clearance.

In real life, unless the controller is not familiar with the airport, she/he will use the airport name for the clearance. You can check it on Live ATC. February 10, 20224 yr Commercial Member The problem with using the airport name is they are not well spelled in the data and so would be difficult to have the readback work correctly. They are used in some calls where a readback of the name is not required. Dave
