SP1 killed my FSX

Featured Replies

I was hoping to install SP1, jump in FSX, be blown away with the improvements, but alas it is not to be. I installed the patch without a problem, started FSX, and I am greated with the infamous 'A Fatal error has occured", Please tell MS about this problem. I figure Phil is watching the forums, so I'm telling here! I use AMD dual core, 2 gigs RAM, 7900 GTX card, and before the patch, was very happy with FSX If you need specific info, I will be glad to post it here, or anywhere thats asked. Meantime I went back to a restore point from yesterday and Im back in FSX, albiet without the patch.Ideas anyone?

There are 2 that I know of that definitely doesn't work. Cloud9 Addon Manager, which I sent them a post on their forum about, and FS Recorder, which the developer warned it's users about. FSUIPC seems to work ok so far, atleast with ASV6.5 and AISmooth.

Thanks

Do you have DLL's in the FSXmodules folder? Try renaming each of the exe there as txt and start FSX. Some of the addons (Dll) don't work.I found the FSinn for Vatsim does not work with this new patchManny

tks for the suggestions but the only addons I have are Genesis and FSUIPC (V4 free)Im not really comfortable editing FSX files, so I am hoping someone else has this problem and a specific resolution.

Here's a way to disable addons that doesn't require editing any FSX files.I assume that you launch FSX by using a shortcut to FSX.1. Make a copy of the shortcut file that you use to launch FSX, and place this copy of the shortcut onto your desktop.2. Right-click on this shortcut copy, and choose "Properties" from the context menu that is shown.3. Click on the Shortcut tab in the Properties dialog that is shown.4. In the Target: edit box, you'll see the file path for the FSX program (it ends with fsx.exe). Edit that string, adding to the end of it the characters " /SafeMode" (don't include the quote marks and note the leading space).5. Click the OK button on that dialog to close it.6. Double-click on that shortcut copy that you've just edited. This will launch FSX, but will disable the loading of any Addon DLLs or EXEs.Once you're done with the modified shortcut copy file, you can simply delete it.In step 4, you can use the string " /ManualLoad" instead. This will prompt you with a dialog for every enabled addon, allowing you to choose whether or not to load it.Hope this helps.-Dave

Thanks for the suggestions. By the time I saw this, I had uninstalled all addons, deleted the fsx.cfg and renamed the dll.xml to .OLD....started FSX and it worked.I hope this helps someone else, I really didnt want to do a fresh install at 3am :)thanks again
