February 16, 20224 yr Found this video on youtube about Finland's solution to nuclear waste: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYpiK3W-g_0 They've just built a 3rd generation pressurized water reactor, and their existing reactors are among the most efficient in the world. Yes, there were delays and cost overruns, which BTW are pretty par for the course in any large project, but the reactor goes online this year. They're also building a large deep underground storage facility which will store 100 years' worth of spent nuclear waste. This will make the country much more climate friendly, and greatly lessen their reliance on fossil fuels imported from other countries like Russia. France, the USA, the UK, and China are also building new nuclear plants. This is good news, as nuclear power is a reliable and climate friendly source of electricity, along with solar, hydroelectric, and in limited cases, wind power. Unfortunately, some countries which have banned nuclear power have actually become even more dependent on imported fossil fuels, and have even resorted to burning more coal to meet their electricity needs. That's what they have done about 90 miles south of where I live. Deep in a solid salt deposit. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.

Now ask me how much the UK version cost? 🙄 During construction the thing has been rising in cost by literally billions. 2.9 billion in 2019, another 500 million last year. It will be DOUBLE the cost they said in 2008. Cost to consumers will be very high. 23.68 billion. Very expensive electricity for consumers. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/jan/27/hinkley-point-c-costs-may-rise-by-500m-covid-crisis-nuclear-power-plant
