AIG Question

I see you posted this in another thread about AI:

VFXSimmer said:  "I've also gone back and forth between using AIG's Traffic Controller, and PSXT/RT.  The latter is really cool for plane spotting while listening to ATC ... at certain airports like LAX, WHHH, EGLL.  Others not as much, but this is more a limitation of the way Real Traffic works.  Pilots turn off their transponders in some places like small airfields, and its somewhat non-existant in places like China."

Bummer. So nothing has really changed.  Not faulting Nico's work, I simply misinterpreted that a workaround for this issue had been implemented.

I should clarify that Nico has done a decent job creating workarounds wherever possible.

For example, at airfields where pilots do shut off their transponder, the tool will "virtually" park the plane at a random gate (using AFCAD for a better guess if it has it).  This will add to the database and fill up your gates/ramps with some planes at least.  It will also do a best guess of loading planes at gates if it is your first time ever to an airport in the sim to avoid empty airports as much as possible.

Both options have strengths and weaknesses.  I've been using AIG TC a lot lately because I was doing a lot of flying in China, and RT had minimal coverage there.  However, I've had an absolute blast loading up PSXT/RT and LiveATC adding a 30 sec delay to the ATC feed and watching planes move about LAX, JFK, ORD and others.  Its a super fun, super nerdy, plane spotters dream!

The TL;DR version:

1) I use AIG fully downloaded for AI models and liveries

2) I use AIGTC with the GA tweak for most of my general flying when I dont care about live traffic or in places where live traffic has issues

3) I use PSXT/RT for plane spotting.

One final note, there is some value in using the learner tool in PSXT to build up a good database of what planes park at gates and the times they are there.  Some enterprising person could probably use that info to update AFCAD data for MSFS airports down the road... just sayin 😉

And just so I understand 100%, I get the setup.exe from PSTX, the monthly service is from https://www.inside.net/ss/realtraffic-for-psx/, and how do I figure out how to connect AIG to these?  Is there a tutorial?

Yes, there is a manual that comes with PSXT that shows you what to do.  You basically add one line in config file to point it at your AIG OCI files.  If you were able to get through AIG's install, setting up PSXT should be easy 🙂

The big thing is Asobo added an extra 6 feet of buffer space for the ground services which isn't in FSX, and really isn't needed. Kai from AIG has brought it up to them.

This is why you rarely see to planes parked right next to each other, because the sim thinks they're over lapping.

Yep, those pesky nuances to which I was referring, as if there wasn't already tight quarters when doing gate layout.  One more thing to pay attention to while doing AFD design.

Very, very cool when it all comes together.  This nerd hope it comes sooner rather than later for FS20

Interesting idea, one I hadn't even considered.  I really appreciate your informative input on the PSXT/RT and LiveATC combo.  I'll have to find time to give it another whirl.
