I don't use addon linker and ORBX and Contrail do give me a choice of installation locations.

As far as I recall, if you set Orbx to a custom location and then go into the community folder and delete the Orbx virtual links you can then use addon linker fine and sort the content as you see fit.  Only issue for me is when Central updates it replaces teh addon linker link with an orbx one again.
