Peru  Up-Down-Up

Peru  Up-Down-Up

Our journey begins at Cap Carlos Martinez De Pinillo (SPRU) on the Pacific Coast of Peru at Trujillo.  The first section of the route follows the Moche river valley into the front range of the Andes which rises quickly from the coast.  Keep an eye on those engine gauges as you climb – then after 50nm we reach our first landing at Quiruvilca Airport (SPQI) – Field Elevation 13,674 ft.  It is only 18nm to Angasmarca Airport (SPTO) – Field Elevation 10,702.  Avoiding the high terrain we make our way eastward to Pias Airport (SPIS) - the runway is on the banks of the Parcoy River and in a deep canyon with high terrain in all quadrants.  Departing to the north over Lake Pias we follow the Paroy River down to its junction with the Marañón River (the principal or mainstem source of the Amazon River).  Follow the Marañón canyon down to our next landing at Chagual Airport (SPGL).  Continuing 19nm miles down the impressive Marañón canyon to Wpt 5 where we turn sharply south and climb up to Huamachuco Airport (SPUC) – Field Elevation 10,410 ft.  It is 50nm to our next landing at Cajamarca (SPJR) followed by a longer 74nm leg to San Nicolas (SP0A).  We finish at Chachapoyas (SPPY) – which is a familiar name to some.

I plan to fly the route in the Aerosoft DHC-6 Twin Otter in Aeropostal livery.  Total distance of the route is 304nm and an aircraft capable of 150 knts is preferred, but as always you are free to fly what you like.

Need an airplane that can operate above 10,000 feet..  My C337 is not happy at that altitude.

Lets try the C414.
