April 13, 20224 yr Steam Version / TDS GTN 750xi /Bert's AP mod/Cessna 414A Flying the KOLM ILS or LOC Rwy 17 approach heading directly toward HOOME (iaf) at 5-miles at an angle of 30° to the final course of 176°. The approach is loaded but not activated. The flight plan shows the approach: HOOME (Jeppesen shows this as iaf) YIYSU (Jeppesen shows this as if) OPOYU (Jeppesen shows this as iaf) OLM Rwy 17 When I activate Vectors to Final the AP takes me to OPOYU instead of HOOME. Jeppesen shows OPOYU as an entry to the procedure (at 3300') with a back course to HOOME (2900') and then (I guess but don't see it) a 180° reversal at HOOME to the final course of 176°. The GTN 750ix flight plan procedure does not appear that way - it just shows the waypoints as I listed them above. SO - what am I supposed to fly? There are two IAFs - do I get to choose which I want? But when I activate the procedure on the 70ix screen - ignores the first two waypoints. What am I misunderstanding? This happens on other approaches e.g. YKYM ILS 27 - the IF is OPISE but activating the GTN 750xi Vectors I always go to XOWLO which is the IAF. (Depicted by the Maltese Cross on the chart). When you select vectors to final the gtn is correctly loading the approach. You need to vector yourself into the final since in game ATC won't do it hehe. You should select the approach from HOOME if you want to shoot it on your own navigation. You're misunderstanding what Vectors To Final is. 🙂 Vectors to Final skips all the approach waypoints except for the FAF (although in newer Garmin units it does still display then in order), then draws an OBS-like final approach course to the FAF for you to intercept. It's a bit of a confusing feature. If you want to get a direct-to the selected IAF so you can fly the whole approach, then you want Activate Approach, not Vectors To Final. April 14, 20224 yr Author Thank you for clearing that up. I've carefully read the GTN 750xi manual and pilot's guide but did not realize that "the final approach course" is only from the FAF to the TDZ. The manual talks about the magenta line and I see that extended back to the IAF so I assumed the vectors took me to the IAF. Now I know!
