Spare monitor connected to motherboard

Featured Replies

In a video in "MSFS 2020 Tips and tricks forum" LesOreilly describes how to use a spare monitor to put a PDF on a second screen without FPS hit
https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/612350-fix-fps-loss-from-pop-out-screens/:

"Turns out that if you have an Integrated Graphics with you CPU and have the Motherboard that exposes it ...  You can use those to work around the FPS Hit when popping out screens."

In his video this monitor is visible in W10 Settings/Display/Rearrange your displays. Now, I have a GeForce 1080 and an ASUS Z87-C motherboard having VGA, HDMI and DVI-D ports. The Monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 245B) has a VGA and a DVI-D port. But no matter what combination for a connection I use the monitor shows a "check signal cable" message and, of course the monitor doesn't show up in Settings/Display.

Thankful for any suggestions.

Regards,

Andreas Gutzwiller

Make sure that the integrated graphics is enabled in the BIOS.  Could be you have the BIOS set to force use of the discrete GPU only.

A Syncmaster 245B...wow, now that's going back a ways.  I still have one (bought in 2008) sitting on my desk, now connected to a Raspberry Pi single-board microcomputer I use for ham radio tinkering.

Thanks, you were right. In the BIOS There is a "iGPU Multi-Monitor" switch I set to "enabled". Now it's there
And, yes it's an old monitor usually hooked to a minicomputer (C8M70-I motherboard) I rarely use.

I actually used to think I was helping things by putting my sim on the GPU and then another monitor on the MB Igpu.  A handful of times it caused massive problems.  Rebooting was the only fix.  Then I realized my setup was simpler putting all my screens on the GPU and I haven't noticed any bit of change in performance.  For me anyway...

I'm not sure either if it makes sense performance wise. It's just that I had this spare monitor I want to put to use.
I'll see if it works.
