Colombia Cargo

Columbia Cargo

This journey across Colombia was inspired by the plethora of Colombia registered DC-6A cargo paints on Flightsim.to.  The flight starts in Puerto Carreno (SKPC) at the confluence of the Meta and Orinoco Rivers just across the frontier with Venezuela and ends in Medellin (SKMD).

Stops include:

  •          SKUA - Marandua AB
  •          SKIV - La Primavera Airport
  •          SKYP - El Yopal
  •          SKSO - Alberto Lleras Camargo
  •          SKVL - Velasquez
  •          SKMD - Olaya Herrera

Flightplan: HERE

Aircraft

The route is 553nm and an aircraft capable of 230knts cruise is recommended.  A Colombian registered cargo DC-6A would be an excellent choice and will make for a very colorful ramp.  I will be flying the ASUR DC-6A in the link below.  A P-38 or TBM would work fine as well.  As always, you are free to fly what you like.

If you decide to show up in a DC-6A, I suspect that two (or possibly more) generous pours will be in order.

It'll make the hand flying characteristics more manageable.

Good fun hand flying the DC-6.  Apologies to Gunter for taking your livery.

I have the best luck setting my own lower power settings for a de-rated takeoff.  Otto applies full power regardless and he is really slow coming back off full power.

It's a handful to control the pitch and establish a gentle climb less than 500, get the gear up and pull the power back, then bring the flaps up slowly.  The key is not to over boost the engines.

Screenshots and video to follow.

No problem Buzz, there are so many other excellent liveries out there…

I agree that overboosting the engines is the main problem and that the AFE isn‘t always doing things right to prevent that. Monitoring the Engine Stress Analyzer does help to prevent that from happening.
