I'm new to this arena and am curious, how does one get into repainting aircraft in MSFS 2020? I am wanting to do a repaint of several aircraft and just not sure where to start. I have experience with photoshop, Afinity Photo and even have a Substance painter. Thanks in advance for any help.

By selecting the aircraft you want to paint.

For some, there are paintkits available, that makes life easier.

All my FSX/P3D repaints are here on Avsim, for my MSFS repaints, go to FS.2

Thats funny.

Do you get a blank of the plane body. Or can you get a 3D version of the aircraft to paint in Substance painter (which I have). I remember the old days you just painted over a flattened texture map. Has that changed, I was looking for specifics.

You could try opening the lowest level of the lodXX.gltf in the model folder of the aircraft you wish to paint.  That's what I use in Blender.  Texture files are different in MSFS (of course, why not change everything).  So does Substance painter have a msfs import addon?  Able to read a .gltf file is what I mean.

It very much depends on the model, for some there are paintkits, for some 3D models, for others a blank textures and then there are a few for which noithing is available and you have to make do with the textures that are available.

So first decide what you want to paint and then look at what is available
