I downloaded a livery for the Aerosoft DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft (REX airlines) and even though the image of the aircraft in the REX livery displayed in the flightsim.TO website shows the livery on a wheeled variant of the aircraft, the only variant where the livery is selectable in MSFS is the floatplane variant.

The instructions are to simply place the file/folder in  the community folder which I did.

Are there any special tricks involved with 3rd party liveries for the Aerosoft DHC-6? I did not see anything in the user manual.

Well that's really annoying. Looking at the aircraft.cfg file for the texture has it linked to the floatplane variant YET where it is downloaded from displays the wheeled variant, SO ANNOYING.

Strangely the second time I downloaded the Rex livery it was set up (.cfg) as PAX wheeled and not floatplane. Maybe the owner changed it.

When I selected the FLOATPLANE variant then the liveries three liveries were displayed, the original and the Rex and the Harbor Air.

Now you may think I must have been dreaming or di9d something wrong BUT if you don't believe me check tell me how to upload the screenshot I happened to take when I selected the FLOATPLANE and the REX (as a floatplane) was displayed when I selected 'liveries' AND the download file had the SAME NAME (I uploaded the image to MEGA.nz and then obtained a url and tried to use it via 'insert image from URL) which would not work. And so I have the proof.

 

These forums will accept the url, (image link) of a picture pasted into the body of the reply.
The image will then be automatically embedded, like mine are.

I think that to find the wheeled Rex livery, you have to click on DHC 6 300 wheels and then on Liveries, like this:

That is EXACTLY what I did before. I selected EVERY variant of the DHC-6 (including the wheeled variants) and then clicked on Liveries for each one. The ONLY variant which showed any extra liveries was the floatplane variant. I should have taken a screen shot of the wheeled passenger variant to demonstrate that the REX livery was not selectable for the wheeled variants. Too late now.

The floatplane variant now only shows the original and the Harbor Air liveries (as it should have done in the first place) as the REX livery is set up for the wheeled passenger variant only (before I downloaded it again the cfg file had "floatplane" in the description.

I spent a lot of time on this as I wondered if I needed to do something special since the DHC-6 has many selectable variants (types).

I will have to just move along and hope it never happens again.

"VOILA"

I decided to search for "Rex Airlines" in flightsim.TO a lo and behold it comes up with TWO liveries. One a wheeled version and the other a floatplane version (much further into the listing) and clearly displaying the DHC-6 with floats in all the images it displays. Now trust me but when I found the livery 'pack' I am sure it was the one which comes up first (the wheeled version) AND I am positive the images displayed were for the wheeled version. Can't prove it of course.
