Water shader/effects (PTaylor blog)

Excellent description of the slider on the blog. My question is, is performance of this slider purely or mainly controlled by the graphics card horsepower, or also CPU/memory?scott s..

Its both, since to render the world the 2nd time thru does take CPU side work ( calculation cycles, memory reads ) as well as GPU work.

ex-Intel LRB native title enablement, ex Intel Gaming and Graphics Samples PM

now Graphics and Multicore PM in Visual Computing Software Enabling.

Yes, very informative.I paused however reading about this 120 km viewing distance. Some of us might be willing to sacrifice a major portion of this 120 km to regain performance. Some of us do a lot of IFR flying with visibility 10 km and less. Would it be possible to trade some of this viewing distance for performance? I noticed that you don't necessarily get back performance when you lower visibility - the sim probably assumes that the visibility can change any moment and things cen get nasty so it loads stuff just in case. It would be nice to have an option to commit the sim to say not more than XX km visibility and receive some nice performance payback in return.Michael J.http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/9320/apollo17vf7.jpg
