Leonardo MD-80 Slats

Featured Replies

Hi, those with the MD-80 is it normal for the slats to extend all the down , then retract a bit to the correct first position? This is what's happening with I set the first notch where the slats are in TO position.

The answer to your question is yes. How do I know?  From this posting on airliners.net from 21 years ago according to the forum software.

It is true there is nothing new under the sim!

Ok so its been years since I had the chance to fly on a Alaska Airlines MD-80 and my memory is sketchy, but I have a question....

On *MOST* preperations for takeoff *time taxing for takeoff* I noticed the slats are extending to takeoff position for a moment, then are fully extending for a few seconds then back to takeoff position, meanwhile the flaps are just chillin in takeoff setting...

Why do they extend fully then back to takeoff???Any thoughts?

You are seeing the auto slat test. Depending on the percentage used, they will cycle through the test and then return back to the takeoff position. Happens automatically when you put them out for takeoff.
