question about using vatsim

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!  I could not get this post commented on when I posted it at the vatsim member forum.  So I am reposting it here to see if any of you could help me because I know there are many more frequent visitors to the avsim forum.  Here is a copy of my thread on vatsim:

I recently joined vatsim and everything is working fine, except for one thing I'd like to do and I'm hoping someone here can help me achieve it.  Here is my setup: I have an HP desktop,   I have MSFS, Windows 10, vpilot, and a headset with mic that attaches to my computer via the 3.5mm cord.  I also have  speakers that I have always used on my PC.  When I plug in my headset the DTS sound window pops up and it disables the speakers to headset only.  I want to be able to channel all the aircraft sounds except the comm frequencies to the speakers and just the comm to my headset?  How can I do this given my setup or is it impossible?  I have searched the web but none of the results were really suitable to my situation.

I appreciate any assistance you may give!

Thanks,

Jason Saucier

To do what you desire, you will need a USB headset.  It will appear as an additional audio I/O selection to Windows.  This will allow you to set your communications to the headset alone and the rest of your audio to the speakers.

I was kinda thinking that myself but was in hopes I wouldnt hafta make another purchase because im good with the cheap headset.  So would I select the comms only to headset in Windows or in a MSFS setting?  I appreciate your help Ed!

I don't have FS2020 installed right now... so, I'm working from memory here (and it's probably faulty)...

I think you need to select your default sound device for FS2020 inside FS2020 and then select your headset device from inside the vPIlot software for VATSIM.  I could be completely wrong, just to be honest.
