September 8, 20223 yr No, not the second Star Wars movie... So I've been using Pilot2ATC for a couple years now, and I've always wondered, if I'm on 122.8 (a UNICOM freq) going to an uncontrolled airport, I've always thought that I should be basically talking to myself. I'm not a real pilot so take this with a grain of salt, but often when I announce "Sting four zero whiskey is entering left downwind for runway 36 full stop", suddenly a voice will pipe up, "Check your frequency and your request and try again. Sting four zero whiskey" or, sometimes "Repeat your request with a proper call sign Sting four zero whiskey". I'm thinking, who is this scuffer telling me what to do on an advisory freq! I'll get that rascal! I didn't think there is supposed to be a controller on UNICOM? Of, if this is P2ATC chirping at me, is there a way to make him be quiet? I know my pattern callouts fairly well I think, I don't need him telling me to say what I already said, and even if I get something wrong, I should get any callback on UNICOM, right? September 8, 20223 yr Commercial Member On CTAF, UNICOM and MULTICOM, P2A is listening for traffic position calls in the form of "<Airport Name> Traffic, <CalllSign> left downwind Runway 35, <AirportName>" It might squawk at you if the call sign is not interpreted or if it doesn't understand what you said in that form. It does this to help users practice making calls in the the correct form. If you don't want to do that, then you can just not key your PTT button. There is no option to turn off the monitoring.
