Adding Hedgerows in the UK

Featured Replies

I noticed in the simHeaven_X-World_Europe-7-forests folder there is a text file - 2 versions remarks.txt. It describes the two sources of OSM data available.

I renamed 'Earth nav data' to 'Earth nav data - osm'.
I renamed 'Earth nav data - osm+autogen' to 'Earth nav data' so it becomes the active folder in use.

In XP-12 I now have hedgerows displayed around fields, as well as the trees!

The 2 versions remarks.txt file also has the following entry - 'If you use orthos, additional forests are coming from the ortho overlays.'  I haven't extracted overlay when using ortho4XP because I assumed SimHeaven had its own overlay, but if addition forest are available I'm going to create some overlays and see what happens - I have no idea about overlays at this point so I have some reading to do!

Edit - *Reading Done* 🙂

I created the overlays in ortho4XP, then copied the yOrtho4XP_Overlays folder (located in the Ortho4XP install folder) to the Custom Scenery folder.  I ran the XP12 version of xOrganizer which made sure the 'SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/yOrtho4XP_Overlays/ entry was inserted into the correct place.

After loading XP12, I do indeed have more trees plus hedgerows!  The default 'Earth nav data SimHeaven folder masks all forests below in the scenery_packs_ini file, but the alternative forests folder smartly masks forests, allowing forests below (in the ortho4XP overlays) to show. Not all trees seen in the ortho imagery have trees plotted on them, but there are definitely more trees!

Extra trees - rows of trees in places I didn't see before.

Another approach is to download at ZL 18 or 19 and see  it all for real.

Hmmmm. I have my yOrtho4XP_Overlays folder marked as "DISABLED" but your post has me thinking I may need to reconsider that decision. Thanks @MrBitstFlyer for sharing your findings (and the sample images). Time to go do some experimentation on my own install.

great post, i'm using orbx overlays for some of those extra trees 👍

LR need to think about adding alot more trees everywhere
