October 11, 20223 yr Author San Francisco indeed! Our 4-5 days of intermittent light rain stopped. Yesterday afternoon the sun came out. It was surely missed. But this morning another reminder of the city I was born and raised in...FOG! We don't see that here very often. I miss the city of my youth. And I wish I could go back. But alas...Doug and Charlie, would let your 9 and 10 year old kids walk downtown through Civic Center alone today? Do you remember Fisherman's Wharf before pier 39 and the boutiques and the jewelry and the souvenir shops and the Ripley's Believe it or not museum? Have you ever fished for shiners off Muni Pier or the Fisherman's Wharf piers? Leon and I and my friend Brozio (his father owned Julius Castle, that restaurant on the side of Telegraph Hill.) would get a couple raw prawns from the bait shop at the foot of Polk Street across from the Ghirardelli chocolate factory) and fish off the piers for shiners and smelt with hand lines. Have you ever heard the old Fisherman's Wharf song? It was quite popular locally when I was a boy and I still remember the lyrics: Imagine and old Italian man singing with an Italian accent at a crab pot in from of one of the fish markets. Allo..I am a Joe, I a work at Fisherman's Wharf you know, An halibut, a tuna fish, a barracuda, she delish' We catch em fresh at the crack of dawn, So ow about a shrimp...a prawn? (Boat horn toot) Oh here she come, my heart's delight She came to see me every night The finest ship that sail the sea, My darling Rosalie... An alibut , a tuna fish, a barracuda, she delish..... That fog out my front window this morning sure awakened some old man memories.. Maybe I should start publishing my San Francisco stories here again. Maybe one a week. What do you think Charlie?
