GNS 530 not following approach after first waypoint.

Featured Replies

Hello all. I tend to load into MSFS without making a flight plan and then create it on the GNS 530 (I'm using the latest mod version) and have run into an issue. I can create and fly a quick plan that i make, but as soon as the aircraft reaches the first waypoint in the approach, the GPS disconnects from the AP, the flight plan disappears, and I'm left aimlessly flying in a circle. Allow me to explain my procedures.

- Start on the ground or whilst already flying, create direct-to i.e. direct to KLAS. CDI to GPS, AP to NAV mode. All good.

- Hit PROC page, select approach, find an appropriate one and load it. Aircraft continues flying happily along the route set, approach waypoints are now in the FPL below the final destination i.e KLAS.

- About 10nm from first waypoint in the approach sequence, activate approach. Now there is a 'direct to' icon underneath the next/first waypoint in sequence. FPL still looks okay.

- Aircraft flies to first waypoint of the approach sequence and then the flight plan waypoints all suddenly drop out, no destination, and the AP NAV mode switches off. The plane just starts flying in a tight circle, until I grab the controls and eyeball the thing down.

If anyone could help me out and point where I've gone wrong, I'd be grateful. I did notice if I load an approach and don't activate it, the aircraft carries on flying to the direct-to destination and the FPL disappears and the AP NAV mode disengages, as far as it's aware it's completed its journey.

Thanks.

When on the ground I would try going to the FP page and entering the departure airport, and then any enroute waypoints, and the destination airport in the 'normal' way without using Direct-to. You should end up with the two airports in the small window on the top ot the FP page, e.g., something like KPUB/KDEN. I would NOT enter the destination airport using Direct-to. Then select and enter the approach. See if at least this standard method works.

First of all, which "latest mod version" are you using?  And are you sure you have only one version active?  (PMS50 vs WT..)

I just tested the WT GNS 1.1 version available in the marketplace in the V35 Bonanza and it worked for me..

Started at CYCD, DTO CYCD, PROC select approach RNAV 016 via HADER, activate (I did not get a Load option).

FPL looked at flightplan, highlighted IKMUV, DTO.  Now have magenta line to IKMUV.

Flew the approach on autopilot at 1400 ft AGL.. all went well.

If you can tell me the specifics of your flightplan, I'll be happy to test it..

BTW.. if you are running into problems with the latest WT GNS, here is where to post questions:

Ah, there's my mistake, using direct-to on the ground because I can be lazy! I understand the departure and arrivals airport part of flight planning (I should do it properly when on the ground!) but a lot of the time I direct-to an airport, I'm already up in the air and I'm done looking at whatever it was or sightseeing. It's when I'm already airborne and fancy/need to be going somewhere, that's when I mostly use direct-to and that's when the issue happens. But I do use it on the ground, and I'll refrain from it now, however when I land my PC6 in the middle of nowhere and then want to head back and do an ILS approach, what should I do then?

I'll try and get some screenshots of the GPS and more waypoint detail, plus the 530 mod version when I'm next at my computer. I do have the PMS GTN750 installed aswel but I don't know why they'd conflict.

Thanks.
