Question(s) re P3Dv4.5 & v5.3 Both Installed on PC

Recommended Posts

I have finally decided to try v5.3 since my somewhat better hand-me-down pc is running v4.5 + numerous addons so well.  I did this previously on my old pc with v3 + v4.  Problem is, I can't recall if there are any special procedures to take when installing FSUIPC6 in v5.3 since it is already installed in v4.5.  I googled and searched the fsuipc forum but didn't get any hits.

I believe it should be ok, there again memory seems clouded, and it should be a straight install without issues.  I'll wait a few minutes to see if there are any replies before proceeding.

Kindest regards & Happy holidays!

It's a little different with FSUIPC6, since it works (and shares a common configuration) with both P3Dv4 and P3Dv5.  IIRC, I ended-up manually copying the FSUIPC folder structure over to my separate v5 SSD and changed the xml file entries in P3Dv5 to point to that copy rather than to the common FSUIPC6 folder, so that my configs for P3Dv4 and v5 would be maintained separately.

Thanks for the reply, Bob.

I decided I had better rtfm (install guide) and discovered it was a simple process, as the installer recognized it was already installed in v4.5 and allowed me to install for both.

The nice thing is, my FSUIPC a/c controller profiles are available in v5.3 so I don't have to recreate the wheel.

Kindest regards & Happy holidays!

This is not quite correct... You have the option of using just one FSUIPC6 installation for both P3Dv4 and P3Dv5, or you can have two separate and distinct installations. The installer handles both scenarios - please see the provided Installing and Registering FSUIPC document - here is the relevant section:

Quote

P3Dv4 / P3Dv5 Selection
The FSUIPC6 installer will detect both P3Dv4 and P3Dv5 versions installed on your system. If you have both versions installed, after the Welcome page you will be presented with a dialog box to select the P3D version in which you wish to install FSUIPC. If you select both versions, please note that only one copy of FSUIPC will be installed to be used by both P3D versions. This means that your settings will be shared between the two versions, so any assignments made in one version will also be available in the other (the
same
FSUIPC6.ini file is used by each system).

If you would prefer separate installation directories for each P3D version, please select only one version. You can later re-run the installer to install FSUIPC in a separate directory for the other version.

If you have only P3Dv4 or P3Dv5 installed, no selection is necessary and the installer will default to use the
version that you have installed.

Please note that if you select to install for both versions, you should also select both versions for any future updates. If you would like to switch back to individual installations, please remove the currently installed version first by manually running the uninstaller first (located in your FSUIPC6 installation folder).
Alternatively, you can uninstall from the Windows App management panel.

There is really no need to do this - this is all handled by the installer if used properly.
