problem reconfiguring panel popup windows

Featured Replies

i have just installed the new fsx mirage F1Cg. the aircraft installed and flies well, but there were problems with 2 of the popup windows: the gps and the auto-throttle. the autothrottle filled the entire height of the screen, and about one fourth of the width of the left side of the screen; it was so distorted as to be unusable, although the various hot spot buttons appeared to work. i have adjusted the size and shape of the autopilot panel by trial and error changes of the panel cfg. i was able to rduce the size of the window but i cannot figure out how to further reduce the window size to fit the size of the gauge. the attached .jpg image of the partially fixed panel, shows the black window which extends down the panel well below the autopilot panel itself. below is a copy of the modified panel.cfg ( showing only the section which i modified). This is the entry you need to adjust:window_size= 0.500, 0.700This sets the size of the "display window."As set above, it means use 50% of the screen width, and 70% of the screen height for the window.Without FS Panel Studio (where you can adjust this visually), you will need to reduce the second (height) parameter to something closer to 0.10 (10%)...

bob and bill:thanks for the replies. firstly, i have tried a number of different window sizes, and in fact, have gone down as low as 0.175. i changed the cfg to 0.500, 0.100, in accord with the recommendation. the result was the same as before: the window reduces to around the correct size but the autopilot itelf gets pushed up to the tow of the window as a line around 5-10 mm thick and is totally unusable (as if the window is squashing it up against the top of the screen). so this does not appear to fix the problem. any other suggestions?the name of the file is Mirage_F1cg.zip and you can find it in the avsim library under 'fsx original aircraft' list.looking forward to some other suggestions!steve chavin

Hi. I downloaded and installed the plane. It crashed FSX. There was not even an air file with it and the aircraft.cfg was in error. I found the file that fixed the missing air file and modified the cfg file. I used FSPanelStudio and made corrections to the autopilot window, the radio stack window, and the GPS window. I added a Simicon to bring up the autopilot. I set the window positions and sizes to suit me. I don't like them at the top left as they cover up the Shift-Z info so I moved them down slightly. I also added a checklist Simicon. If you don't like these positions, or sizes, PM me and I'll help you make it suit yourself. Here is what I ended up with. Hope this helps you. You can copy it and paste it into your panel.cfg. bob:thanks for the excellent help. i added all of your new cfg settings to the main panel, radio, gps and the autopilot. all of your changes were right on the mark and i am pleased with the visual results ( i have not yet tried flying the mirage, though it flew nicely even with all the paenl issues).i am not sure where the knee board and autopilot icons are located; i found 3 icons on the left side of the panel but they were for the usual fsx functions, like world map and radio. also, your note seems to indicate that you made some changes in th aircraft.cfg, but i cannot find these in your forum note. have i overlooked them or did you not include these for me?i am sorry about the air file problem. i knew it was missing but did not think that you might want to actually fly the mirage. finally, i want to thank you again for your prompt, gracious and generous help. one of the nicest things about the flight sim community is the availability and willingness of people like you to share their expertise with computer novices like me.steve chavin

Hi. Glad it worked OK. The Simicons are all grouped together. The map, radio, GPS, the kneeboard and the Other Panel Icon are there. Click on the Other Panel Icon and it will bring up the autopilot. Click on the kneeboard Icon and it will bring up the kneeboard. I did not make any aircraft.cfg changes. The "FIX" file had the air file and the aircraft.cfg fix in it. If you have any problems PM me and I can help you offline. Best regards, Bob.

bob:sorry to have to trouble you again. i still cannot locate the 2 new panel icons you refer to. i can see the original 3 stacked one on top of the other on the left mid side of the panel, but cannot see the auto pilot and kneeboard ones which you have inserted.thanks again.steve chavin

Hi. If you will look at the above panel.cfg you will see five Simicons called out. Here is a screenshot showing the five Simicons. If you are still having troubles PM me and we can try and work it out for you. OK? I tried PM'ing you but you have no info showing. Regards, Bob.

I replied to your PM and received a reply stating that your e-mail address was incorrect. Look in your FSX Gauges folder and see if you have the cab file called Simicons1024.cab. The two Simicons that you are missing are in that cab file. Look in your FS9 Gauges folder and copy it into the FSX Gauges folder. That's why the two other icons are missing for you. When FSX asks if you want to load that gauge just say YES. Try PM'ing me again. If you have another e-mail address use that one. Regards, Bob.

sorry for the difficulties. i just finished a complete reinstall of fsx and there is a copy of simicons1024.cab in the gauges folder. it is dated 9/4/2006 and is somewhat larger than the one in my fs9 installation (dated 6/12/2003). will there be any problems substituting the smaller and older cab file?my correct e-mail address is: [email protected] chavin

I e-mailed you at the right address. Don't copy the smaller cab file into FSX. The right one should be 33kb and dated 2006. Regards, Bob.
