Both.  I use the mouse to bring it up into low idle.  After that it's all controller assignments:

  • Joystick slider to cross over into High Idle
  • Throttle quadrant for power
  • Button on throttle quadrant for reverse prop

I hope someday that MSFS will have the same functionality as x-plane. In x-plane you can program beta range and reverse right into the throttle axis, instead of using the switch for reverse, this is way more realistic for taxiing and just feels way more real to me. You can actually control how much reverse thrust you want this way instead of having 100% reverse with the switch. The button works but an axis controlled reverse would be awesome.

Can you tell me where exactly you position the mouse pointer and whether you just click or click, hold and drag the throttle lever?

I click, hold and drag it up.  However, to bring it across to the left side of the H for high idle I've assigned a slider on my joystick.

I still get full control of the amount of thrust - the switch simply reverses the prop, then I control the amount continuously by moving the throttle forward for more reverse thrust or back for less, etc. To go out of reverse I simply pull the throttle closed and hit the button again.

Not as realistic as the manner X-Plane does this, I know, but it does work.  I certainly would prefer being able to program the positions in the manner you have described. The current method gives me full control, though it's a little clumsy making the changeover - I find myself using braking more than I normally would.

Also, Asobo needs to allow assigning a flap axis for continuous control!  Some  aircraft require in-between settings for proper operation and the preset flap positions are not always appropriate.

Ok. I do the same for my DC 6, going to give it a try.
