Losing connection with P2ATC

Featured Replies

Let me start by saying that I absolutely love P2ATC and have used on many flights. However on long IFR flights I like to fast forward a bit due to time limitations. I used to use the one in FS2020 like to descent or something but that pretty much wigs out. So I use VFRMAP which allows me to teleport. Usually after teleporting P2ATC will contact me and assign me a controller, but soon after, nothing. I cant get a radio check, I cant get any response even after choosing different controllers. I disconnect and reconnect and try to get IFR clearance, nothing. Closed, reopened, re-file flight plan, IFR clearance = nothing radio check = nothing, there seems to be nothing I can do to re-connect Pilot2ATC. Is there a trick  to reconnecting after fast-forward? Is there a trick to getting IFR clearance if already in the air? Any help would be appreciated, I love this program.

If you're in the air and flying a flight plan, then getting going with ATC again can be done as follows:

1.    Load same flight plan as was loaded prior to the disconnect/crash/jump.
2.    Disconnect, then Reconnect to SIM
3.    File the flight plan
4.    Make initial call to ATC.  Usually this would be “<CallSign> at flight level xxx” or something similar to the nearest Center Controller in the Frequencies list
5.    ATC will give you a squawk code and all should proceed normally after that.

This should be done a few minutes before you would reach TOD.

I use a utility I wrote that teleports me ahead on long legs, as well as setting the time forward as if I had flown to the advanced position.

I ask P2ATC for direct to the target waypoint (~200nm short of destination), then once I'm cleared direct, I advance to the new position, then do the process above (load flt plan, disconnect and reconnect, file, and call ATC).  It gives me a freq change immediately when I contact ATC, but then does not initiate clearance for a descent.  I waited until I was only 85 nm from destination still at FL340 without a descent...I requested a lower altitude--ATC denied the request and then cleared me lower.

Is there something else I can/should do to sync ATC up with my new position after leaping ahead in order to resume normal arrival sequencing?

You might try not asking for the clearance direct and just be sure your reconnect position is at least 6 minutes ETE before TOD or the first STAR waypoint, whichever comes first.

When you do the disconnect/reconnect, all states, events, etc. are reset so you can start up even after a crash of the SIM or P2A.

If you are past the first point where a descent might be initiated, the program might not interpret the situation correctly.

OK, thanks.  How does P2ATC calculate the TOD, so that I might be able to estimate that?

It will be a waypoint in the Flight Plan, initially based on planned GS, Cruise Altitude and Descent rate.

So after you file the flight plan, it will show as a Green Arrow on the map and also be listed in the Flight Plan Waypoints.  It may be before or after the first STAR waypoint, depending on the STAR.
