Cockpit view vs. Drone view in low vis

Featured Replies

I don't know if this is specific to the PMDG 737, or if this is a general cockpit cam issue...notice the terminals and parked aircraft aren't obscured by fog in cockpit view

...but they are obscured in drone view.

I sometimes see this with the drone view as well.
It seems like the textures of those models aren't aware of the haze.
Maybe it is something not possible with an older version of the SDK when those models were built?

You can see if you get the same effect as the CV view when lowering the drone camera to the VC level.

Im sure its not a complete explanation, but you have to factor in that in this instance the drone view is perhaps 100' further away than the cockpit view and maybe 30' higher which introduces a slant angle so you are looking through a greater thickness of fog.

I dont think this fully accounts for the difference though.

Actually I don't think it accounts for any of the difference as I only used that drone view to create a good view of the lack of a problem in drone view. I droned all over the place, including almost to ground level, and hundreds of yards closer the the objects in question and they never appeared as they do through the windscreen of the aircraft.

Part of my point in this thread is that maybe it's something related to the PMDG 737, as I didn't test with any other aircraft.

The whole thing is rather immersion killing.

Its a factor in real life, and if you actually think about it most definitely is replicated to some degree in the sim, the question is how accurately that is done.

If your point is you believe it might be only when using one aircraft, then the obvious thing to do is to go test some others.

You say its immersion killing, Isnt the very act of jumping out of the cockpit view and flying a drone around far more immersion killing in itself than any change of clarity in the view accompanying this?

Then I come back on this:

What I sometimes see is, that some textures in the same scenery are obscured by fog, while some others don't (enlarge for better view):
