February 17, 20233 yr When Rolls Royce pulled out of this project I assumed that would be the end of them. Seems not though. It's new Symphony engine is being desighned by Florida Turbine Technologies and GE. https://boomsupersonic.com/symphony Edited February 17, 20233 yr by martin-w
February 17, 20233 yr Funny you should post this as I was simulating a Concorde flight the other day and Boom came to mind, so I checked out their web page. Let's hope they are successful. February 18, 20233 yr Commercial Member In a world where capital is no longer free, the rubber will meet the road (runway?) when they need to raise more money. Cheers! Luke Kolin I make simFDR, the most advanced flight data recorder for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane.
February 18, 20233 yr The key to success will be affordable tickets. The technology is sound, I think. The new design and engines will likely be a lot better and more efficient than the old Concorde, as good as it was for its time. A cruise speed of m1.7 is also pretty good, and only 170kn less than Concorde at <40,000ft. Concorde flights one way London to New York cost around $6k in the 1990s, which would be over $10k today. Boom made a silly claim a couple years ago that eventually they could get ticket prices to around $100, yes that's $100, not $1000. Uh, sure guys. Anyway, I think if they can offer tickets for a round trip flight at a cost of $3-5k then they will be successful.
