Good baseline Active Sky Setttings P3D v4.5

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I have noticed that at high altitutdes I am getting some clouds popping into view in the distance. I wonder if anyone can share their active sky settings with me so i can get a good baseline. I am running with default clouds and using 3 cloud layers in Active Sky but there are some many options I find it all a bit confusing.

Kind regards

Darran

Which version of ActiveSky are you using?  There are two that are compatible with P3Dv4--Activesky for P3Dv4 and the later Activesky P3D (compatible with both P3Dv4 and v5).

Hi Bob

I am using the earlier version. ActiveSky compatable with V4 only (AS for P3D v4)

kind regards

Unfortunately I replaced the P3Dv4-only version with AS P3D at least a year ago, so I don't have a configuration set for the older version any more.

As to seeing clouds (and autogen) drawing in the distance, IIRC you can mitigate that pretty effectively by reducing the max visibility to something like 20-25 miles.

I have Active Sky for P3DV4 and Active Sky Cloud Art. I have to confess here, I'm not sure why I have these particular settings. It's been awhile. However, I'm not sure what "getting some clouds popping into view in the distance" means. My "flights", 99% of the time, are at high altitudes, and clouds are always going to "pop-up in the distance".

In any case, here are my Active Sky and P3D settings. I'd also suggest checking the HiFi forum (if you haven't already done so)  https://forums.hifisimtech.com/ ,

AS-P3Dv4_ Cloud Options
Maximum cloud laters = 6
Maximum cloud turbulence = 100 (default)
Maximum cloud icing = 100 (default)
Prevent thrunderstorms when CB reported = True
Minimum cloud draw distance= 80
Maximum cloud draw distance= 100
Force BKN to 7/8ths = True
P3D low cloud offset = 509
Multi-layer thunderstorm clouds = False
Cloud Motion effect = True
Cloud motion effect offset = 120

P3Dv4.5 settings:  Graphics/Weather
Cloud draw distance = 80
cloud coverage density=Maximum
Simple clouds =unchecked
Detailed cloud= checked
Volumetric fog =checked
Windshield effects = checked
Thermal visualization - None
