February 20, 20233 yr I've created a flight plan from KTPL to KADS. The flight plan is KTPL,Brian, Knead then KADS. The arrival is from Scops to Bondo. The RNAV approach is from Bondo to Jerit to KADS runway 15. When should I activate the approach in the aircraft, I'm guessing right before Bondo as it is the inital approach fix. Thanks guys for any help! John Snyder Jr

Thanks guys for any help! Typically, I would either activate before the IAF, or not at all. Many pilots advocate for never activating the approach on a Garmin unit. You can do a Direct-to the IAF as an alternative. That way you know where the autopilot is going to take you.. Bert

February 20, 20233 yr To add to Bert's reply, Garmin themselves teach a similar philosophy in the classroom. That (and other tips) is covered in this FlightChops video. It moves a bit fast in some spots but you can always pause and watch again.
