March 11, 20233 yr DCS has announced multi-threading support with reports of doubling the fps. Will we see the same in MSFS? https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/newsletters/e5e76c23e0b20714a6a6a0ebde12c530/
March 11, 20233 yr MSFS already has multi threaded support, it is just that the main thread is still overloaded, and they seem to have stopped any further work on it. Personally, I would like to see an optimisation update during the year as one of the sim updates. They could try to continue unloading the main thread, and get DX12 to work better. Then there is Direct Storage to look at. I suppose by adding DLSS3 with frame generation they have done something, but that would require all of us to buy expensive 40 series cards. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio. Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's. Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.
March 12, 20233 yr I have been doing a bit more thinking on this... Remember going back over a year, some of us had a hard time convincing Asobo (especially Sebastian and Martial) of the benefits of DLSS - they said it showed no benefits over TAA in terms of performance, during at least one Twitch session. After many months of pressure from the community, they then added DLSS 2 to the title, and now, it seems to be quite important to them, by adding DLSS 3 before many other titles, and even collaborating directly with NVidia on this - strange how things turn around! The only thing is, they still need to do the hard miles on performance optimisation - they can't just do it the easy way like this and let NVidia take all the load. They need to do some optimisation work as well, at least for the sake of AMD card owners and NVidia card owners that can't afford a 40 series card. DX12 when done properly has shown considerable performance improvements on other titles, but in MSFS, sitting inside a wrapper won't cut it. They said they haven't started on proper DX12 optimisation yet, and other than a bit of extra smoothness claimed by some that comes inherently with DX12, this shows they haven't touched it properly yet. They also say DX12 is still basically in beta, so I would like to see some news on development on this as they seems to have put it on the back burner. They certainly need to do it before even thinking of introducing new features such as ray-tracing. Edited March 12, 20233 yr by bobcat999 Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). It was finally useful for a CPU-bound game. 38 minutes ago, bobcat999 said: They need to do some optimisation work as well, at least for the sake of AMD card owners and NVidia card owners that can't afford a 40 series card. I think this right is it, 1080p is still king on hardware surveys and GPU prices are hard to stomach given the value returned. Of the 40 series compared, funnily enough only the 4090 has the best value.
