Historic Scenery....

Featured Replies

I recall, from the deepest areas of my simmer brain, there used to be a scenery, maybe AI only I really am not sure, injector for fsx, that allowed for historically accurate aircraft and airports to be displayed if one chose a date of flight somewhere in the early 40s, 50s, 60s... of the 20th Century?

I think it would be great to have such a tool for any general purpose flight simulator. Presently the only way we have to "feel" what it was like flying in the 40s is to play IL-2 or DCS WW2, but it would be great to see "Historic Scenery" in MFS, XP, P3D, AEFS...

Having not only historically correct AI traffic but also navaids... No satellites, no sophisticated GBAS.... Flying the Caravelle, DC-6, DC-3 with a realistic scenery and AI environment 🙂

I think it was MyTraffic. And yes, only AI traffic. But at least the default FS9 bulidings were suitable for those older eras. For everything else, CalClassic could help a bit. I can't see a way to do that with MSFS...

Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. Running P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 scenery objects as an additional library, just in case), FSX-SE, MSFS2020, MSFS2024 and even FS9! Lossless Scaling for all my sims. What a godsend...

Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there .

VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left + GNX THQ as primary controllers. Xbox Series X|S wireless controller as standby/mobile.

It would appeal to me. I like to fly the Aerosoft DC8 and play 60s tunes and imagine I'm also time travelling. One thing that's put me off from getting the PMDG DC6 is it seems there's no way to hide the tablet. I wouldn't mind using it in the preflight phase, but once I'm ready to get going I want to play Bill Haley and the Comets and travel back in time. But of course either way, the AI traffic, scenery, and to a certain extent weather/climate of course don't match.

In FSX I guess I'm roughly in 2005-2015 using the 747 and 777, somewhat older liveries, and World of AI traffic, but it works great and it's fun.
