July 2, 20232 yr Here’s one for the history buffs…the MSFS doco for the Ford Trimotor says it was used by PanAm for their first flight to Havana from Key West in October 1927. The PanAm history site and many others say the aircraft was a Fokker F-7 Tri motor, which looks very similar, but not metal. I have found more referrences to the Fokker than the Ford. Which is true? I would like to recreate that flight and am not sure if the early NDB beacons were used on that flight as well. They were installed in Key West and Havana around that time.
July 5, 20232 yr I think you will find it was the Ford. I had the pleasure of taking my young son on his very first airplane ride in the Tin Goose (RIP) some years ago. At that time it was the oldest commercial passenger aircraft still flying. This was the mid 80s. In addition our pilot was the oldest commercial pilot. He gave a history of the aircraft and if memory serves me this very ship made the inaugural flight to Havana. Thank you.
