GPU on a Mac

Recommended Posts

I got a 32 inch tv for 1080 sim by Vizio. Not a great tv but it improved some things right away, instrument panel and asphalt was clearer.... but there is some occasional blurring here and there in the distance....I am on an M1 Mac mini 16 gig ....if I put together a decent PC set up with say at least a 5th gen ram capability motherboard and compatible chip and maybe an AMD 6700 series or better GPU..do you think the Vizio will reflect the quality parts or is just a crappy tv...?Is the Mac known for GPU mediocrity..?

I would be happy with a very clear and responsive 1080 experience, don't need 4K...

A friend recently upgraded to a MacBook Pro 16 M1, and runs XP12 at medium / high settings at a much higher resolution than my 1080 in a Ryzen 5600x + 3060 Ti...

His only problem is that many addons aren't still M1 compatible ...
Heck, with a single processor, which is highly efficient electricity consumption wise, he does what I do with two ( CPU + GPU )...

If I were rich I would buy a Mac for sure and leave Windowze behind for sure... I would then be forced to play only XP, Aerofly or Flight Gear, or Aerowinx PSX, but.... well, XP12 would be good enough... 🙂

Main Simulation Rig:

Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti, 1 TB & 500 GB M.2 nvme drives, Win11.

Glider pilot since 1980...

Avid simmer since 1992...

I have briefly played with XP12 using my Macbook M2, but the performance was much, much worse than both of my rigs. X3D + a beefy GPU is imho the best combo for simming.

I'm on a Macbook M2 Max and for me the performance of X-Plane is fantastic, but this was the top-of-the-range device at the time (I think it still is).

My only gripe is that I can't run much else, there isn't exactly a large library of compatible games and running Windows games is mostly impossible now (Can't use bootcamp due to the different CPU architecture)

My M2 is a regular one and I was getting around 30-40 fps in medium settings using default scenery and aircraft. Have not even tried 4K with high-end aircraft, AI and ortho...

prices for PC builds should plummet in 24-25'. maybe.....then it will be worth it to build a hi end PC and have both....
