July 11, 20232 yr I currently successfully run three ASUS 24" 1080p monitors using Nvidia Surround. These for use at mostly ultra (some high) graphic settings in MSFS 2020. Most of my use is for GA aircraft flying VFR. Is it likely that I would be able to maintain this level of performance with a single Samsung 49" Odyssey G9 QHD 240 hz monitor (LC49G95TSSNXZA)? Many thanks, Brian
July 11, 20232 yr Honestly, there's not enough detail here to even take a guess. System specs? July 12, 20232 yr Resolution is the question. 1080? It depends on what you'll be running at. Richard Chafey i7-8700K @4.8GHz - 32Gb @3200 - ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero - EVGA RTX3090 - 3840x2160 Res - KBSim Gunfighter - Thrustmaster Warthog dual throttles - Crosswind V3 pedals MSFS 2020, DCS
July 12, 20232 yr Author Hello Bob, specs: Windows 10 i7-8700k (4,7 GHz) 32GB ram (3200) 1080ti (3 of) ASUS 24" 1080p monitors. (NVIDIA Surround) Also: (no gpu impacts) Simionic g1000 PFD and MFD bezels and displays (3of) Logitech FIP As mentioned, I use MSFS exclusively, flying GA and vfr. At this point I'm getting very satisfactory performance with most settings at Ultra / a few at High. My expectation would be to achieve 1080p performance from the G9. Obviously, achieving 1440 would be great, but probably not achievable without a performance hit, Does the above help? Thanks, Brian Edited July 12, 20232 yr by aatd correction
July 12, 20232 yr Author Hello Richie, Yes, my expectation is to operate at 1080p. Higher would be welcomed but I suspect (??) it won't be possible without incurring a performance hit, Thanks, Brian
July 12, 20232 yr The pixel count on the G9 (5120x1440) is 18.5% higher than 3x 1920x1080 monitors. Whether or not you'll see performance degradation depends on how much you gain from not having the overhead of nVidia surround in the mix any longer. I'd guess the performance will be fairly similar to what you're seeing now. It's a generally bad idea to try driving a digital monitor at other than its native resolution, as the interpolation required to scale down will blur an otherwise crisp image. So planning on 1080p on the G9 doesn't make a lot of sense to me. July 12, 20232 yr Author Thank you Bob, Based on your explanation, I think I will pass on the g9. Again, thank you for your help, Brian
