July 24, 20232 yr Seen a lot of promotional videos over time for MS which always featured these gleaming hangar floors and good look around inside. Never really bothered about it much until today decided to park it for the day inside a hangar in the default scenery for XP12 - the place was actually Richmond (YSRI) Anyway looks to me that XPlane does a hanger just as good - things you find out. Oh yeah and it is the X-Hangar De havilland Caribou - thats very nicely done as well.
July 24, 20232 yr I think for us simmers that came from older sims, there are mainly two things that make the inside of a hangar look good/right: the 3D modelling of the inside (it looks outstanding in your screenshot) and the handling of the lights and shadows. On older sims with "dumber" light system, the inside of the hangars were looking so wrong because of the incorrect (or lack of) handling of shadows. How many times did we see planes sitting in hangars while still being hit by the sun ? Even worse at night when hangar interiors were lit, but the plane was totally dark (FSX/FS9 typical...). I think it's the generation of XP11 and P3D (from v2 or v3 I think) that finally started having smarter or more elaborate lighting in their graphic engines, allowing a plane to be appropriately shadowed or lit when it should. That simple thing was in fact a major change for the visual quality of our sims.
July 24, 20232 yr Xplane now has hanger where they provide interior and exterior, doors open or shut or anywhere in-between. Look really good, just need them to provide the sloping or round roofs for the facades as they are all flat, or maybe provide a separate roof facade.
August 2, 20232 yr Author Another hangar - this is a big one in Japan at the Iwakuni JSDF base where the US-1 and now US-2 are based, Has to be big the tail on the US-1 tops at over 13 metres, The aircraft is the recently released XP12 Shinmaywa US-1 by Flyingtak1 - In a word simply superb!
