PAPIs in P3D V6

Hi all V6 users ( I believe there are about 7 of us 😆) ,

Anyway, has anyone else noticed the severe lack of PAPIs at most airports?

This is at many addon airports that show the PAPIs perfectly in V5 but they are either tiny or non-existant in V6.

The usual "RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR" setting in the CFG file doesn't appear to make any difference in V6.

Any ideas anyone?

Naah, much more than 7, they just don't visit this site much since it became MSFS centric.

Are you referencing default airport PAPI lights or 3rd party airports?  They seem about right (I'm zoomed up with 4K res image)?

I take this opportunity to ask if you get sudden very strong papi lights when near the fence (both in v5 and v6, default or add-on scenery)

I find it very unrealistic.

That's the first time I hear about the "RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR" parameter...

Can I get more information about it ?

Both !

Your first pic is about what I see as well, if PAPI decide to show at all .

The same airport in V5.4 is a lot more like the second pic. but takes on the image in the first pic. in V6.

And, as I said changing the "RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR" parameter makes no difference.

Perhaps my images weren't best representation since 1st is zoomed out the 2nd is closer.  Airport is default KSFO.  I long long time ago where were some issues with PAPI light, but I have personally ran into any in V6, perhaps legacy airports using F9/FSX for PAPI lights?

P3D V6 provide for considerable lighting adjustments via UI and .CFG file.

If you enable Tone Mapping via UI ... I highly recommend you do ... you should be able to improve image quality there also.

If you want to go beyond these settings, then you'll have to get involved in HLSL shaders (C:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v6\ShadersHLSL ... maybe look in PostProcess folder HDR.HLSL or Boom.HLSL)

I see about the same as you at KSFO, but my problem is,  airports ( I I'll have to check if it's only addon ones ) that have PAPIs in V5 but not in V6.

I'm aware about 'most' of those lighting tweaks but unfortunatly none do anything for PAPI.

While V6 has the "RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR" parameter it appears to do 'diddley squat' for the PAPIs, unlike V5.
