NVIDIA GPU change to AMD GPU

Recommended Posts

Hello, I wanted to exchange my NVIDIA GPU for an AMD GPU. First I removed the NVIDIA driver using DDU. Disconnected the PC from the power and removed the old card. The new GPU inserted, GPU power cable connected. and the monitor connected, the PC/monitor supplied with power and the PC switched on. What happens: absolutely nothing, monitor stays dark. Question: What mistake did I make?

Defective GPU?   Try taking it back out and reseating it.

Did you by chance, accidentally plug in your monitor HDMI into the motherboard HDMI instead of the GPU card's HDMI?

Even if your windows drivers are messed up, you should still see your PC post screen and be able to go into BIOS.

1. Did you disconnect from internet when using DDU?

2. Did you use DDU in safe mode?

3. Is the card seated thoroughly?

4. Does the card power up?

5. Does the monitor recognise the display connection type? (HDMI, DP)

6. Is your power supply sufficient?

7. Do you use separate power cables to the card from the power supply?

There is a lot of things we need to know. From which card model did you upgrade to which card model? A lot of things can play a role. More info is needed.

When switching between nVidia and AMD, I think it's important that you run DDU in safe mode to ensure all of the nvidia drivers are removed.

Also, if your computer has an integrated GPU on the processor, it may be defauting back to that, especially if there are driver remnants still installed that do not match the video card architecture.  You might try plugging the monitor into the motherboard's video output until you get things sorted out.

Maybe the way to test for a bad new card, is to retry the old card.

Hello,
thank you for the numerous feedbacks.
-DDU was used in safe mode
-Card was seated correctly (snapped in place)
-Power supply is 800W
-Power cable from power supply into GPU snapped in place
-PC has no integrated graphics
-After re-installing the old card all back to normal
The card is on its way back. (Return)
Now looking for a comparable NVIDIA  one

Thanks for so many help tips
