Arctic tree line

Featured Replies

I know that the Arctic tree line is moving 40 to 50 meters a year because of warming; but goodness gracious, Canadian Forces Station Alert on the northern tip of Ellesmere Island in the high Arctic doesn't have any vegetation.  Why then does P3D V5 have trees growing there.  Maybe Lockheed people need to go to the US Base at Thule, Greenland, which is 440 miles south of Alert, to see that there are no trees there either.

Enough of my rant, does anyone know of a way to rid P3DV5 of trees north of the Arctic tree line.

You could use sBuilderX to make custom landclass for the area.

Even ORBX openLC got this one wrong, as it's even greener than the default landclass and still has trees.

you may want to install v6 😄

Just kidding. You could ask over at Prepar3D.com and get answer from Jorgen, asking if you have followed the general debugging steps.

Long story short, I have a few trees in Alert too but no trees in Thule.

While searching for arctic landclass i found this thread over at Flightsim.com https://www.flightsim.com/forums/topic/52552-alert/#comment-285858

It shows a flight from Thule to Alert, in MSFS2020, which shows even much more trees in Alert if I got that right. So Prepar3D is not that bad compared to this pic I saw there.

There's also an FSX Freeware Alert Station. It contains only the afcad but the screenshots show a snowy landscape without any tree. So with FSX this seems to have been correct and meanwhile somehow the trees got in at LM.

I did not find an arctic landclass scenery so far.
