Multiple P3D installs...

Featured Replies

So... I would be grateful for any comments / suggestions  regarding the following "plan" 🙂

Introduction: I bought P3Dv6 and have been using a fake v5 install to make A2As, PMDG 777, ORBX Global, Libraries and freebies as well as MKStudios LPPR and LPPT and Aerosoft Madeira work.

Objective: I can't live without my FSLabs A319 and 20, and their upgrade into the corresponding EFB-equipped models and the 321, so, I really have to go for P3Dv5.4 until native installers are made available...

Plan: There could probably be multiple solutions that would save me from uninstalling all of the stuff and remaking the Registry tricks and soft links under ProgramData, but I am planning to:

1) Uninstall all of the installed addons and unmake the Registry tricks and the soft link;

2) Uninstall P3Dv6;

3) Buy and Install P3Dv5.4;

4) Create a fake v4 install pointing to v6 in order to be able to install the PMDG 777 and any additional models I might buy for it into v6 too, using that fake install of v4, same applying to Aerosoft Madeira and ORBX products through ORBX Central.

5) Natively install FSLabs, PMDG 777, Milviz freebies for v5, ORBX Libraries and products for v5.

I have ActiveSky and Cloud Art for both P3D up to v5 and P3Dv6.

Alternative1: Install only v5.4 and all of the stuff with native installers for it into that version, and then v6 with only ASP3D6 and wait for native installers for the various products... so, no fake v4 install...

What do you think?

Thx 👍

This is my approach, but I do have V6 installed with Chaseplane professional. It may be that I'm just too lazy to mess with all the registries hocus pocus to shoehorn addons into V6. That's just me. I just don't see the justification since V5.4 is operating and looking so good I don't see enough improvement in V6 to make it worthwhile.

Unless you are low on drive space, why not both?  They coexist nicely.  All of the files are in version specific folders.  What am I missing?

No, I do want to install both, but I also wanted to install some addons to both, using a fake v4 install...

Ok, so I just purchased a 6 month Professional License of P3dv5, will install it asap together with my good old ASp3D for v4 and v5, use Orbx Central to install all of the goodies into it, and wait for Orbx to make available a v6 compatible version of the Central...

In P3dv6 I will use only the default and a few freeware aircraft, like the Manfred's DC-3, and wait for more installers to get available...

Into my v5 install will also go all of my aircraft, PMDG 777 22 LR, FSLABS A319/20, A2A Comanche and C172 as well as the P-40, and the Milviz freebies.

Aerosoft Madeira and MkStudios LPPR and LPPT will also go into v5, and then later maybe into v6 too...

Note that there is a documented way to use Orbx in both 5 and 6 from a single library.  Search the Obrx forums.

I put 6 on a separate SSD and simply copied scenery and other addons into the 6 addon folder.  I did install PMDG 737 using the 4->6 method.  It and the other addons seem to work.  I'm mostly using 5.4 with Concorde at the moment, so I haven't spent any real time with 6 other to see that it works.
