VFR Help

Featured Replies

Hello folks,

I am looking for some very simple advice on how to taxi and request departure in pattern on a VFR flight. I thought I could just dial in the ground frequency to ask for taxi clearance and the the tower for the departure clearance, however I get no response. I know that the system can hear me as I get a response when I call tower or ground. I am at EGPD and using Beta E.

What am I missing?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks..

The most simplified:

Call Ground :  Ground, <CallSIgn> ready to Taxi

Ground will give taxi instructions and then transfer you to Tower when you get to the departure point for the active runway.

Call Tower:  Tower, <CallSIgn> ready for departure to remain in pattern.

Then make your normal Pattern calls.

Scottish wings - after you say to tower, "Tower <call sign> ready for takeoff runway <departure runway> request to remain in pattern", tower will ask you to report downwind and final.

On final, if you say "tower <call sign> on final runway <runway> touch and go", tower will clear you "for the option". If you want to proceed with a touch and go, respond with "cleared for touch and go runway <runway> <call sign>".

On final, if you say "tower <call sign> on final runway <runway> full stop", tower will clear you "to land". If you want to proceed with a full stop, respond with "cleared to land runway <runway> <call sign>".

Most times, P2A will allow you to respond without using the runway number, so "cleared for touch and go <call sign>" will work, too.

I think it is always a good idea to include the runway number, so ATC knows you are the same page as them.
