Limiting FPS in Nvidia Control Panel - Multimonitor

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

So far I had FPS limited within P3D at 30 FPS. Using Shift-Z, FPS=30 is shown.

Now I was following the advise to limit FPS in Nvidia Control Panel instead of inside P3D.

So I've set P3D to unlimited with VSync On. And in Nvidia I've set VSync to half refresh rate and max FPS to 30.

But when I now start P3D and use Shift-Z I see FPS=10!

Is this maybe, because I am using 3 monitors/projectors and due to the setting now done in Nvidia this value is per monitor??

Thanks,

Michael

My experience with multiple monitors (and view groups) is that using NVP to limit frame rate will give no more than rate setting/# monitors at best.  I've just let it do its thing.  With sufficient power, it should provide reasonable rates (25+) most of the time.

Meanwhile I found out that FPS decreases significantly (from ~60 to ~20) already when just turning on VSync in P3D.

With Nvidia metrics all at factory settings.

Is that normal?

Nv panel and many FPS counter software doesn't work well with muti-monitor, not just P3D, also X-Plane with pop-ed out window etc. Nv will limit total sum of FPS to it's number and many FPS counter will show the total sum of FPS on all window.

It seems they didn't have any idea that some game could even use muti-window for one application....

I ended up using the limiter in P3D itself, I used to have quite some performance loss with that setting in FSX, but nothing noticeable in P3D v4 and v5.

I don't use either NCP or P3D to limit FPS.  I set the refresh rate of my monitors to 30hz and then turn on vsync and triple buffer.  Per P3D I get a pretty solid 30 fps that bounces a little bit between 27 and 34 FPS.  This is in fairly simple environments.  If I go into NYC or LAX, for example, I need to make graphics downgrades/adjustments for them.

thanks for the explanations.

I will test the different variants and see what works best for my system.

Is there any difference between monitors and projectors in regards to setting lower refresh rates?

So I tried setting FPS unlocked within Sim (VSync, TB  off) and locking FPS in NCP (max performance).

The strange effect is, that I then see flickering QNH displays and ILS buttons on the glareshiled within my A320 Homecockpit.

Anyone with an idea?

Thanks,

Michael
