November 8, 20232 yr Hi All, I've always used Pilot2ATC with the mouse instead of voice, but recently picked up a microphone/headset and thought I'd give it a go. I've got the microphone setup correctly and I can hear myself without issue using Sound Recorder etc however cannot get Pilot2ATC to recognise my voice. - The microphone is the only input device. - Windows 11 Speech Recognition is configured and does indeed recognize my voice. - I've followed the steps in the Troubleshooting manual and have downloaded the latest beta. - I've got the English (United States) language pack installed. - It makes no difference if I'm connected to the sim or not - Voices are heard fine. I can hear the MS TTS voices without issue. Whenever I use the grammer checked I click on practice and get the below dialog box, but pressing and holding PTT gives me so speech recognised (or heard for that matter when I use replay). Interestingly, whenever I click on PTT my microphone volume automatically adjusts itself down to 12, regardless of what it was set on before. I've no idea why it would do that - but I suspect that would make the voice very hard to hear. I've attached a log in the hope that may help Dave work out whats going on. I don't beleive its a microphone issue as my voice is being picked up by other apps. It just doesn't appear that Pilot2ATC is recognising anything I say... It appears that the speech recognition and language are recognised correctly. Languages all installed.... Note that the volume on the microphone automatically drops to 12 everytime I press PTT in Pilot2ATC. I can move it backup to 100 but pressing PTT will instantly drop it back down agian A copy of the LOG file is below. In this instances I just loaded Pilot2ATC and tried twice with grammer checker to practice. Both times nothing was heard. November 8, 20232 yr Commercial Member It sounds like the problem is that Windows is dropping the volume when you press the Mic button. Here are some things to check: Right-click the speaker (audio) icon from the task bar and click Sounds. Disable communication activity Go to Communication tab and select Do Nothing. Go to the Recording tab and select your headset. Press Properties button at the bottom. On the Levels tab, move Microphone Boost up to the max On Advanced tab, Default Format, select the "CD Quality" or "DVD Quality" option Go to the Playback tab and select your headset. Press Properties button at the bottom On Enhancements tab, select Disable All Enhancements On the Spatial Sound tab, turn off Spatial sound format Run the Windows audio troubleshooter by opening Settings, going to the Troubleshoot tab, selecting the Playing audio option, and following the on-screen instructions. I noticed in the screenshots that you have "Enhanced Voice Recognition" installed. You might try disabling that too. I would also try running P2A with the SIM shut down. The Grammar Help screen will work without the SIM. Get that recognizing the simplest phrase like "Say Altimeter". Then your Mic volume issue will be corrected. Dave
November 9, 20232 yr Author HI Dave, Thanks for the reply. Followed the steps with no change in behaviour unfortunately. P2ATC is still lowering the microphone level when press PTT. I've triple re-confirmed that DO NOTHING is selected - no change. I'm able to record voice with Sound Recorder, Steam without issue or having the system lower the voice....it just seems to be Pilot2ATC thats lowering it for some reason (or windows is as a result of something). Any other ideas? Cheers, EDIT: I just tried using my Sony Headphone/microphone - No issues at all. Something to do with the line/mic in jack settings in Windows. I'll just use these for now. Thanks Dave. Edited November 9, 20232 yr by KL Oo Kael Oswald 9950X3D/ 64GB DDR5 6200 @ CL30 / Custom Water Loop / RTX 5090 / 3 x 48" LG C4 OLEDs
November 9, 20232 yr Commercial Member Glad you got it to work. Changing the type of Microphone to "Other" instead of Headset might get your other headset to work. At least you're up and running. Dave
November 9, 20232 yr Author Sorry Dave - Spoke too soon. Got one flight in with the Bluetooth headset and then on the next load up of Pilot2ATC I've suffered the same fate - Pilot2ATC just not hearing anything I'm saying. In this instance its not lowering the volume (and I've figured out how to fix that anyway)...its just not hearing anything I say. Sound recored and Windows 11 Microphone setup all functioning as per normal and recording loud clear voice. Any ideas on what else may be the issue? Is there any troubleshooting or Logs within Pilot2ATC I can send you? Kael Oswald 9950X3D/ 64GB DDR5 6200 @ CL30 / Custom Water Loop / RTX 5090 / 3 x 48" LG C4 OLEDs
November 9, 20232 yr Author Solved (I hope) - Run as administrator appears to have fixed it....fingers crossed! Kael Oswald 9950X3D/ 64GB DDR5 6200 @ CL30 / Custom Water Loop / RTX 5090 / 3 x 48" LG C4 OLEDs
