737-800 Trim Bug?

Recommended Posts

I know I'm prone to the odd rookie user error but this one seems to have cropped up all by itself as I've been doing normal ops with this aircraft and now it seems to having some sort of tantrum that has me completely stumped. I've not changed any settings or done anything with hardware that may have brought this on. One flight it was working perfectly the next this was happening. I said I would check here first to see if it looks familiar before taking the PMDG forum plunge.

I can't move the trim wheel. It jumps forward then slows down and stops, never moving past the 4.0 mark. Is this something I'm doing or something else entirely? Is it something in the PMDG Plane Setup settings I'm missing?

As always, thx in advance for any help.

If a mod could delete this duplicate post that would be great. Don't know how that happened. Cheers.

This is how it should work in real life.

Try moving the yoke forward while applying trim nose down or pulling the yoke while applying trim nose up.

Is that something that was implemented recently?

I've never needed to touch the yoke when adjusting the trim and it always moved freely just by rotating with the mouse.

Nope, did you tried?

Maybe you need to recalibrate your yoke. For free movement, the yoke needs to be in a neutral position.

Yeah I've tried it's not the yoke. Like I said, one flight it was normal and the next it wasn't, with no hardware or setting changes.

I've been told to check my "assistance options" to make sure there is nothing there conflicting. I will check this. I haven't been in that tab since 2021 I reckon but I'll check anyway!

Thx for your help, Polosim.

@El Diablito

To command up/down, stab trim switches have nothing to do with moving (pushing/pulling) the yoke to function.
Besides turning off assistance options I would first check the hydraulics and on the control stand to see if the switches are in the correct position or if there is some biding issue. Keep in mind that PMDG is known to have intermittent problems with loading panel states.

Thanks for the reply, LRBS.

I found the culprit. I recently moved to the newest nvidia driver and this time I did a "clean installation" and for some reason it had reset some assistance options and also some of my graphic settings. My own fault really as I stopped doing clean installations a long time ago for this very reason.

Anyway, there's a setting somewhere in the assistance options and it's "auto-trim" and this was activated, which is why the trim wheel wasn't working. Once I set everything back to "Hard" the PMDG was fine again.

How an update to a graphics driver did that I'll never know but there never seems to be a dull moment with the sim. This episode reaffirms my belief that 99% of the problems with the sim are user related. I knew I physically didn't change anything myself but a change had happened. Onwards.
